The French Indian ** trade currency, commonly known as the sitting foreign currency, was one of the foreign currencies circulating in China at the end of the Qing Dynasty. The obverse of the coin is a seated statue of the Statue of Liberty, and the reverse is decorated with ears of wheat. In French, there are "trade silver dollars" and "French Indian **". The Greek statue of the Statue of Liberty sitting on the obverse of the coin is also a factor in the name "sitting in the ocean".

The main coin of the sitting foreign currency, the one yuan, was minted in Paris from 1885 and lasted for a total of 43 years until 1928. All kinds of foreign currency were intermittently issued until 1928, when it came to an end due to the shadow of war. After China implemented the policy of abolishing the dual currency system and changing the yuan system in 1933, the market for foreign silver coins gradually became unified, and foreign silver dollars were not valued in China. Coincidentally, at this time, the foreign currency market disappeared.

As a historical carrier, sitting on foreign currency records the humiliating history of the Chinese people's political oppression and economic exploitation after the Opium War. Studying the foreign currencies circulating in China is of great significance for us to understand and comprehend this period of history.

This collection is called sitting foreign coins, and the main image on the obverse of the coin is a statue of the Statue of Liberty holding a rod. The French characters on both sides of the statue are: REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE (French Republic). Below the constellation of goddesses is the small French word BARRE and the year of issue of the coin.

The main pattern on the back of the coin is a wreath surrounded by explanatory words. The French inscription on the wreath is FRANCAISE INDO-CHINE, and the horizontal character in the middle of the wreath is the denomination of the silver coin: PIASTRE DE COMMERCE. The text below the coin wreath reads: TITRE 0.900 POIDS 27 GR. The small letter "A" in the middle position of the double torches directly below can be considered as the edition. There is a 360 degree misalignment between the front and back.
